BRISTOL – The echocardiography laboratory at Bristol Regional Medical Center has earned accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories.

The echocardiography laboratories at Bristol Regional and Holston Valley Medical Center are the only such facilities in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia to earn ICAEL accreditation. The HVMC lab achieved accreditation in 2001.

The BRMC lab is accredited in the area of adult transthoracic echocardiography testing. The lab is one of the first 1,000 echocardiography laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to receive ICAEL accreditation.

Echocardiography testing is useful in the detection and management of many types of heart disease, and an estimated 10 million echocardiograms are performed in the United States each year. The voluntary ICAEL accreditation program recognizes laboratories’ commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.
