Residents of Bristol and the surrounding area now have another resource for good health.
Bristol Regional Medical Center officials today joined with local leaders to mark the grand opening of Wellcare at the Bristol Mall, a health information and resource center located on the shopping center’s upper level.
Holston Valley Medical Center opened a similar center in Kingsport’s Fort Henry Mall two years ago.
“Wellcare at the Bristol Mall is a realization of our hospital’s mission to provide wellness services to our community,” said Bart Hove, the hospital’s president. “This center will offer residents easy, convenient access to the health information and services they want and need.”
Wellmont Health System’s Wellcare health promotion department will manage the Wellcare center. The center will provide health screenings, physician presentations, a wide variety of health and wellness classes and activities, support group meetings, online health information and a resource library. It will also serve as headquarters for the shopping center’s mall-walking program.
Health professionals will staff the center, which will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity to reach out to the people of this area and promote the community’s health,” said Judy Rasnake, Wellmont’s director of health promotion and employee health services. “Health education and living a healthy lifestyle are so important.
“Sharing that message is why we’re here.”
