CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK RAISES NEARLY $400,000 FOR CARE OF AREA KIDS DURING RECORD-BREAKING CELEBRATION

KINGSPORT – Area residents performed miracles and set records over the weekend, donating nearly $400,000 to support children’s healthcare services.

The Children’s Miracle Network this year raised $382,479, thanks to corporate donations and pledges received during a live telethon broadcast Saturday, June 5, from MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center on WJHL News Channel 11.

All of the money raised locally will stay in the region to provide medical equipment, services and treatment to children throughout the Tri-Cities.

Wellmont Health System serves as the regional affiliate for the Children’s Miracle Network and distributes the funds raised among not-for-profit organizations that are dedicated to the health and well-being of children.

“With the help of the kind folks of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, we raised more money than ever before to support children’s health care. It’s clear that the people of our region want to provide the best healthcare services possible for young people. Thanks to those who opened their hearts and made pledges during the telethon, many outstanding service organizations are able to do just that,” said Dr. Brent Kennedy, president of the Wellmont Foundation.

The Children’s Miracle Network was developed in 1983 to help improve sick children’s quality of life, and each year raises millions of dollars for children’s hospitals. CMN represents 170 children’s hospitals around the nation, including those in the Wellmont Health System.

Of the funds raised last year, 21 percent were distributed to children’s charities and programs throughout the Tri-Cities region that are not affiliated with Wellmont hospitals.

The local CMN broadcast is an annual celebration that gives the children and their families a chance to thank the people whose donations have made their miracle stories possible.
