BIG STONE GAP, Va. – Christina Hammonds has joined the staff of Medical Associates of Southwest Virginia at Big Stone Gap as a nurse practitioner.
Hammonds recently became part of the primary care practice, which is headed by Dr. Maurice Nida, after serving the region for about nine years as a registered nurse at various facilities in the Tri-Cities area, including Holston Valley Medical Center.
In her new role, Hammonds will provide comprehensive primary care services for men and women, with a focus on women’s health issues. She will also deliver seamless access to advanced technology and services offered by Lonesome Pine Hospital and Wellmont Health System.
Hammonds received a master’s degree in nursing from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., in December. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from King College in Bristol, Tenn. Hammonds was recently certified as a family nurse practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
During her medical career, Hammonds has made presentations on topics such as peanut allergies, hand washing and dental hygiene.
