BRISTOL, Va.Dr. Rachel Wilson has joined Wellmont Medical Associates as a family medicine physician, bringing a passion to travel with her patients on the lifelong wellness road.

Dr. Wilson, an osteopathic physician, sees patients of all ages at 410 Stagecoach Road off Exit 7 of Interstate 81. In delivering high-quality care, she also provides patients an extra measure of convenience by taking care of them until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“Becoming a family physician is a lifelong dream for me,” Dr. Wilson said. “I’m excited to have joined my colleagues at Exit 7 and have the opportunity to create lifetime bonds with my patients. I’m pleased to be part of the Bristol community in my practice after becoming so familiar with the area during my training.”

Dr. Wilson graduated from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She completed medical school at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Va. and a residency at ETSU’s James H. Quillen College of Medicine in the ETSU Family Physicians practice in Bristol, Tenn.

She enjoys the diversity of age groups and the broad spectrum of cases she treats as a family physician. She considers herself to be friendly and approachable and is committed to optimal health for her patients.

“The most important thing I do to improve a patient’s quality of life is to instill a sense of wellness in their daily life,” Dr. Wilson said. “Many people might go to a primary care physician to address a single health matter, but entrusting your care to a physician you feel is helping you attain comprehensive health is extremely important. I feel like that’s the most important thing I do every day.”

Dr. Wilson not only helps patients achieve wellness but applies the principles in her personal life. She enjoys running, working out and eating healthy.

“I like to encourage my patients to follow the same path, but I also understand it can be a challenge for some people,” she said. “I hope my patients feel they can share the ups and downs of their wellness journey with me.”

Dr. Wilson partners with Dr. Jason French and Dr. Darlene Litton, both of whom are medical doctors, and nurse practitioner Linda Davidson at Exit 7 to deliver superior and innovative care to patients who live and work in the Bristol, Va., area.

She was attracted to work there because she has family in that area and had a pleasant experience with her co-workers during her residency. Dr. Wilson has strong ties to the region and believes practicing at Wellmont Medical Associates in this location is a good fit for her.

Dr. Stephen Combs, a medical doctor and chief executive medical officer of Wellmont Medical Associates, said Dr. Wilson is an excellent advocate for patient health. He said her philosophies also align with the objectives of Wellmont LiveWell, a community initiative geared toward improving Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia’s health status.

“Like all our physicians, Dr. Wilson is focused on helping patients not just when they are sick but also when they are well to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle,” said Dr. Combs, who also serves as LiveWell's medical director. “Her energy and compassion for her patients will be evident to those who choose her as their physician. She will serve as a valuable resource for her patients and have a tremendous impact on their lives.”

Dr. Wilson is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association, the Christian Medical and Dental Associations and the American Medical Association.
