KINGSPORT – Holston Valley Medical Center’s trauma center, one of only six designated Level I trauma centers in the state, has been granted continued Level I trauma center designation status by the Tennessee Department of Health.

Continued designation as a Level I trauma center was granted following a site visit to the hospital in June. In a written report, the site visit team concluded Holston Valley “continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to trauma care, quality improvement, assessment of the care and regional involvement in trauma teaching programs.”

The Department of Health conducts site visits at trauma centers every two years. Designation as a Level 1 trauma center is the highest level of state designation for a trauma center.

The site visit team’s report recognizes a “good demonstration” of administrative support for the trauma center and notes that trauma staff and other hospital personnel are “motivated to support the trauma program and its activities both through patient care and through community service to improve trauma care and promote trauma prevention.”

“The site team finds (Holston Valley) is continuing to meet all the requirements and standards of a Level I trauma center,” the report concludes.
