ROGERSVILLE – For individuals who suffer from abnormal kidney function, driving long distances for medical care can be a taxing experience. That’s why Hawkins County Memorial Hospital and the physicians of Kingsport Kidney Health are partnering to open an outpatient nephrology office at the Rogersville hospital.
The satellite office will open Monday, Jan. 14, and will operate on selected days each month. Lissy Thomas, MD, will be the primary physician. Steven Butler, MD, and Duc Qui Vu, MD, will also be available to treat patients at the office.
“We will serve patients with kidney problems and uncontrolled hypertension,” Dr. Thomas said.
While the office will not provide dialysis initially, plans call for the initiation of the service in the future.
“Our long-term goal is for patients to not have to drive to Kingsport for dialysis,” Dr. Thomas said.
Kingsport Kidney Health is a medical practice specializing in nephrology and hypertension. Nephrology is a branch of internal medicine that deals with disorders of kidney function. A nephrologist may be consulted to assist with the evaluation of problems such as high blood pressure, blood or protein in the urine, fluid retention, abnormal serum chemistries and loss of kidney function.
