KINGSPORT – Helping children who are receiving high-quality care in Wellmont Health System hospitals is a long tradition in the region, and one upcoming event that will improve their health will be particularly sweet.
“Dairy Queen is a long-established national supporter of Children’s Miracle Network and the lifesaving treatments and equipment it funds,” said Todd Norris, Wellmont’s senior vice president of system advancement. “The children we treat benefit greatly from the philanthropic spirit of this forward-thinking corporate citizen.”
Wellmont has been the Children’s Miracle Network affiliate for Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia for more than 25 years. All money raised in this area is used by the health system to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for its pediatric departments, neonatal intensive care unit and emergency departments and to fund community partnerships that advance children’s health.
The $1 cone day comes on the heels of a busy fundraising weekend for Children’s Miracle Network. On Thursday, May 30, and Friday, May 31, from 7 a.m. -7 p.m., WXBQ and Electric 94.9 will team to host the annual Children’s Miracle Network radiothon, broadcast live from Bristol Regional Medical Center. And on Sunday, June 2, the annual Children’s Miracle Network celebration will air on WJHL-TV from 6-7 p.m. and 8 -11 p.m.
The broadcasts will feature testimonials and stories from patients and families who have been impacted by Children’s Miracle Network. During the programs, viewers and listeners can call the stations to make pledges, which will be tallied by station personnel and Wellmont volunteers.
“This weekend’s donors are really making a positive difference for our community’s children,” Norris said. “They are helping us continue the excellent care available to children at Wellmont hospitals and helping grant these boys and girls a life full of promise.”
