KINGSPORT – Holston Valley Medical Center, one of just six designated Level 1 Trauma Centers in Tennessee, now boasts the region’s only complete staff of specially trained, board-certified trauma surgeons.
George Milum Testerman, MD, recently earned board certification in surgical/critical care from the American Board of Surgery, joining fellow HVMC trauma surgeons John Hall, MD, and James Lewis, MD, in achieving this prestigious designation. Holston Valley is the only hospital in the region at which all trauma surgeons are specially trained in trauma care and board certified in critical-care medicine.
Additionally, Dr. Hall was recently selected for inclusion in the millennium edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare to be released in July. The publication recognizes Dr. Hall’s work in pediatric trauma.
“Residents of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia can take comfort in the fact that Holston Valley offers the highest level of trauma services,” said HVMC President Louis Bremer. “I commend Dr. Hall, Dr. Lewis and Dr. Testerman for their commitment to continuously better themselves for the benefit of all the people of our region.”
Holston Valley provides care for an average 1,000 trauma cases per year. The hospital since 1988 has been a designated Level One Trauma Center, the highest of three levels of designation for trauma centers nationwide. To maintain the Level One designation, HVMC has a trauma surgeon on-site 24 hours a day, and an operating room for trauma cases is available at all times.
