Employees of the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Midway have been recognized as top fund-raisers by Children’s Miracle Network, raising $66,200 for the children’s charity in 2002.

The Midway distribution center ranked seventh among all Wal-Mart locations in the United States and Canada in terms of dollars raised for CMN.

Wellmont Health System hospitals have been the local CMN affiliate since 1987. All money raised through CMN stays in the local community to benefit children’s health care.

“We are profoundly grateful to the employees of the Wal-Mart Distribution Center and, indeed, the thousands of local residents who each year lend their support to this terrific cause,” said Brenna Bevins of the Wellmont Foundation. “Their efforts are making a difference in the lives of children in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.”

The 2003 Children’s Miracle Network broadcast will air Saturday, May 31, on Newschannel 11. The event will be held at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center, and the public is invited to attend.
