WYTHEVILLE, Va. – The Wellmont CVA Heart Institute’s delivery of the highest-quality care in the region continues to expand with the opening of another office and another physician joining the practice.
The heart institute’s 14th office – the seventh in Southwest Virginia – opened Monday, April 15, at 360 Virginia Ave. And Dr. Don Anderson, the board-certified cardiologist who has seen patients in Wythe and Bland counties since 2009, is joining the heart institute as its 46th physician.
“We’re thrilled to add a cardiologist with the skill and integrity of Dr. Anderson, who will share his best practices and build on our tradition of superior cardiovascular care for patients in the region,” said Dr. Jerry Blackwell, the heart institute’s president. “We are also pleased some of our other cardiologists will be supplying their talent and years of experience, all in a convenient setting for patients in this part of Southwest Virginia.”
Drs. David Beckner and Mark Borsch, both of whom are board-certified interventional cardiologists, and Dr. Eduardo Fernandez, a board-certified cardiologist, will join Dr. Anderson in treating patients at the office. All of them plan to manage cardiovascular care for patients who are admitted to Wythe County Community Hospital, where patients can access diagnostic services.
“Our patients will benefit tremendously from the expertise each cardiologist offers, and the quality of care they will receive will be enhanced,” Dr. Anderson said. “Plus, our community will also be able to access multiple other facets of the region’s premier cardiovascular practice. That can only produce excellent results for all of us.”
Patients who need advanced cardiovascular services can be seamlessly transferred to Bristol Regional Medical Center. That hospital has repeatedly been recognized statewide and nationally for its innovative care, including twice being named among the elite hospitals for heart bypass surgery by the nation’s leading consumer magazine. Bristol Regional is one of only two hospitals in Tennessee and Virginia to receive in 2012 the American Heart Association’s highest award for effective heart attack treatment.
Physicians and other caregivers at the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab are also available round the clock every day. They have restored blood flow to a blocked artery in less than 15 minutes from a patient’s arrival at the hospital.
“The Wellmont CVA Heart Institute has always prided itself on delivering high-quality care with the greatest access at the lowest possible cost,” said Tim Attebery, Wellmont Health System’s vice president of cardiovascular services. “It is a privilege to now be entrusted with providing many cardiovascular services close to home for patients in Wytheville and surrounding communities.
“We are pleased to partner with other local physicians and Wythe County Community Hospital to advance the level of cardiovascular care and sustain a culture of wellness.”
