Wellmont Health System and UnitedHealthcare renew network relationship

KINGSPORT — Medicare beneficiaries in Northeast Tennessee enrolled in UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage plans will continue to have access to care at Wellmont Health System facilities.

UnitedHealthcare and Wellmont have renewed Wellmont’s Medicare Advantage network participation, which allows UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members to access Wellmont facilities at in-network benefit levels. UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored and TennCare plan members also have in-network access to care at Wellmont under an existing relationship.

Wellmont serves hundreds of thousands of people in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia with a full spectrum of hospital and physician services and preventive health and wellness services, including the nationally recognized Wellmont CVA Heart Institute, Wellmont Cancer Institute and Wellmont Medical Associates. The health system includes nearly 1,000 medical staff members and affiliated physicians.

“We are happy we are renewing our relationship with UnitedHealthcare so its Medicare Advantage members can continue to receive in-network care at the facilities they and their physicians prefer,” said Alice Pope, Wellmont’s chief financial officer. “We appreciate our patients’ understanding during this process and look forward to delivering them our services without interruption.”

“Our continued relationship with Wellmont Health System enables Tennessee Medicare beneficiaries to continue to seek medical care at health care facilities close to where they live,” said UnitedHealthcare Regional Vice President Charles Russo.

UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) company, serves more than 1.1 million people in Tennessee with a care provider network of more than 130 hospitals and 17,000 health care providers statewide.
