Wellmont's information services department partners with Wise Recycling for e-recycling event

KINGSPORT – Do you have an old computer you want to dispose so it is not cluttering your home or office?

Wellmont Health System has the perfect solution – an e-recycling event that will provide an appropriate method for getting rid of that potentially space-consuming computer.

The free event will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Holston Valley Outpatient Center on the Eastman Outpatient Campus, 103 W. Stone Drive. It is a partnership between Wellmont’s information services department and Wise Recycling, which has locations in Kingsport and Bristol, Va.

Wellmont and Wise Recycling have taken appropriate precautions to ensure privacy of information in computers. During the recycling process, all hard drives and memory will be erased by electromagnetic pulse.

Seth Johnson, Wellmont’s information services director and project manager, said this event is an excellent opportunity for the community to dispose their computers safely and in an environmentally friendly manner.

“Wellmont is making upgrades to enhance the quality of our information systems, and we needed to take several computers out of service as part of this process,” Johnson said. “As we prepared to dispose these computers, it made a lot of sense to also include the community in this initiative. Many residents in our region have computers they no longer use but may not be aware of the best way to dispose them. We are pleased to assist them with this innovative event.”
