KINGSPORT – Wexford House, a comprehensive skilled nursing facility that serves Sullivan County and surrounding communities, has joined Wellmont Health System.
The aligning of these two highly respected organizations will enhance the continuum of care the region’s patients receive. It will result in a patient’s seamless transition from one healthcare setting to another, while retaining the same quality throughout the care process.
“We are thrilled to have Wexford House join the Wellmont family, as we have enjoyed a professional relationship for many years that has greatly benefited patients,” said Denny DeNarvaez, Wellmont’s president and CEO. “This expanded partnership will empower us to deliver the same superior care with compassion beginning in our hospitals and continuing in one of our region’s finest post-acute settings.”
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Wexford House, a not-for-profit corporation which was managed by RHA Health Services, is a 174-bed skilled and long-term care facility located at 2421 N. John B. Dennis Highway that employs 210 people. All of them have become Wellmont co-workers.
Care provided at Wexford House includes respiratory services, hospice, skilled nursing care and short-term stays. The facility also provides inpatient and outpatient physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Wexford House has been selected for nine consecutive years by Kingsport Times-News readers as the best nursing home.
Kathy Green, Wexford House’s administrator, said the facility is excited to become part of Wellmont.
“We have made a significant difference in the lives of patients who have entrusted their care to Wexford House, and that high level of care will not only continue but flourish now that we have joined Wellmont,” Green said. “We have worked closely for many years with Wellmont and all its marvelous physicians and other caregivers and know that our patients and employees will be in excellent hands.”
DeNarvaez said Wexford House will benefit from the sharing of expertise, skill and best practices that will elevate the quality of care patients receive. The facility will contribute to Wellmont’s delivery of the best health care anywhere with a variety of services that will ensure patients receive exactly what they need to improve their health once they leave the hospital.
“As health care continues to evolve through reform, coordination among providers is essential to timely and efficient care,” DeNarvaez said. “One of the main components of healthcare reform is keeping patients from returning to a hospital for the same condition, so when we can maximize the change from one facet of care to another, it increases the likelihood of an optimal result.”
